In a national climate where golf is on the decline, junior golf in the Lake Conroe area is alive and well. Junior golf can take on many shapes and forms but typically falls into two categories: high school golf and junior tournaments. High school golf is especially popular in Montgomery County, with several of the state's best programs within its borders. The Lake Conroe area is home to three programs, Montgomery High School, Willis High School, and Conroe High School.

Montgomery High School has been a state power for years at the lower 4A level and has continued its good run in the new 6A division. The players in this program are lucky enough to get to practice and play at a rotation of beautiful clubs and courses that include Bentwater Country Club (between Miller and Weiskopf golf courses), Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, La Torretta Lake Resort, April Sound Country Club, and Woodforest Golf Club. All of these clubs support the program and allow the Montgomery High School golfers to play on private courses. Willis High School calls The Village Golf Club at Panorama Village its home for practice while Conroe High School plays at West Fork Golf and Country Club off of Highway 105. This course is not as well-known, but provides a great public golf experience for the money. More information about tournaments and how to support these programs is available on each school's website.

Junior tournaments offer another great opportunity for young golfers of every skill level to hone their craft. Junior tournaments in the area include:

The Beltway Junior Golf Tour includes several designated regions in the Lake Conroe area.

The Montgomery Country division [a1] is offers weekly junior tournaments during the summer as well as events throughout the year. The tour is inexpensive, and is a great starting point for junior golfers with little or no tournament experience.

Stepping up in both cost and skill level, there is the Texas Junior Golf Tour and the Southern Texas PGA Section Golf Tour. These two tournaments allow young players to experience a higher level of competition primarily in a two-day format, and are spread around the state so players can experience a wide variety of courses and conditions.

Lastly, there is the American Junior Golf Association tour, with tournaments spread across the country. These tournaments attract the highest level of junior amateur golfers, both nationally and internationally, and prepare players for golf at the college level.

With so many high school golf programs and junior tournaments to choose from, the future for golf in the Lake Conroe area looks bright as the next generation of golf enthusiasts continue to learn and grow on the fairways and greens of Montgomery County.
